Josh James Activated, Optioned To Minors
4 years agoHouston Astros pitcher Josh James (hip) has been activated off the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. He was already with the organization for a rehab assignment, so he won't have to go anywhere. The 28-year-old righty has been sidelined all season due to a hip issue. He'll get some more work in the minors before likely joining the Astros at some point this season. James is a versatile pitcher who can be used in multiple roles. However, it's unlikely he holds any fantasy value in 2021. In a corresponding move, righty Ralph Garza Jr. has been designated for assignment. He held a 4.09 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 14/7 K/BB ratio over 11 innings with the Astros this season.

Josh James Undergoes Flexor Tendon Surgery
2 years agoHouston Astros right-hander Josh James (forearm), who has been on the 60-day injured list since June 23 with a right lat strain, underwent surgery on the flexor tendon in his right forearm, and the Astros haven't provided a timetable for his return. James had a setback during his minor league rehab assignment in the middle of last month, and now it's unclear if he'll even be ready for the start of spring training next year. The 29-year-old hasn't pitched at all for the Astros this year after making just five relief appearances in 2021 with a 5.40 ERA (3.77 FIP), a 1.20 WHIP and eight strikeouts in his five innings pitched.
