Josh Berry's Michigan Chances Might Hinge on Rodney Childers's Setups
3 months agoJosh Berry starts 16th in today's Michigan race. Although he unsurprisingly tends to be fastest on short tracks due to his vast late model experience, his team and crew chief, Rodney Childers, did win five of the last eight races at Michigan with Kevin Harvick behind the wheel. Berry also made a pass for the lead at Pocono, and Pocono and Michigan often correlate. However, Berry is also a lame duck driver and he and Childers are both preparing to switch to other teams, which might hinder their focus. Berry only ranked 28th-fastest in practice and was even slower in average speed. Although his Xfinity Series record at Michigan is decent, his Cup record is unproven and he crashed out of last year's race albeit in a different car. It seems unlikely that Berry will recapture the No. 4 team's earlier success, but Childers is reason enough to see a possibility there.
