Josh Bell Sitting Friday Against A Lefty
2 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell will retreat to the bench for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. With lefty Ranger Suarez on the bump, manager Bob Melvin has decided to go with Brandon Drury at DH and Wil Myers at first base. Bell is a switch-hitter, but Drury and Myers have both mashed left-handed pitching this season, leaving Bell no spot to fit into. He could be used as a pinch-hitter against either a right or lefty late in the game, which is a nice option for the Padres to have. Bell is just 6-for-27 but does have two homers this postseason. Expect him to continue sitting against lefties for the remainder of the playoffs.
