3 years agoThe New York Yankees reinstated catcher Jose Trevino from the paternity list on Monday. Trevino has enjoyed a solid season at the plate for the Yankees and fantasy managers this season, batting .254 with a .290 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases. He's logged 307 plate appearances so far in 2022 and should continue to be the team's primary option behind the plate. New York's other catching options on the 40-man roster include Kyle Higashioka and Ben Rortvedt.--Ben Rosener - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoCincinnati Reds catcher Jose Trevino (hand) is undergoing a CT scan on his right hand on Saturday. Trevino suffered this injury during Friday's spring training contest. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be at risk of missing the start of the regular season if this injury is serious. The Reds are already going to be without top backstop Tyler Stephenson (oblique) during the start of the regular season. The Reds acquired Trevino in a trade from the New York Yankees earlier in the offseason. Last season, the 32-year-old posted a .215/.288/.354 slash line with eight home runs. If Trevino were to miss the start of the regular season, fantasy managers should expect Austin Wynns to move up to the top of the depth chart.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoCincinnati Reds catcher Jose Trevino (hand) exited Friday's spring training contest early after a foul tip hit him on his hand. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as the team has yet to provide information on the severity of the injury. This is also not a good sign as top catcher Tyler Stephenson (oblique) is set to begin the season on the injured list. The Reds acquired Trevino earlier in the offseason in a trade from the Yankees in exchange for Fernando Cruz and Alex Jackson. Last season in the Bronx, the 32-year-old backstop posted a .215/.288/.354 line with five doubles and eight long balls. He showed a strong eye at the plate, holding a 17.5 percent strikeout rate. If Trevino were to miss time, fantasy managers should expect Austin Wynns to operate as the No. 1 backstop.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoAccording to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, catcher Jose Trevino and the Cincinnati Reds have settled on a one-year, $3.425 million contract to avoid salary arbitration. The Reds acquired Trevino from the New York Yankees in a trade earlier this offseason, which sent right-handed pitcher Fernando Cruz to the Bronx. Trevino should be expected to share catching duties with Tyler Stephenson. Last season, Trevino posted a .215/.288/.354 slash line with just eight home runs. Under the hood, Trevino generated a poor .267 xwOBA, a 5.3% barrel rate, and a 35.1% hard-hit rate. Trevino should only be targeted in deeper NL-only formats, as Stephenson should be expected to see the majority of starts behind the dish and because Trevino carries minimal offensive upside.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoThe Cincinnati Reds acquired catcher Jose Trevino from the New York Yankees on Friday night in exchange for right-handed reliever Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson, according to sources. Trevino was the primary backup for Austin Wells in the Bronx in 2024 and slashed a weak .215/.288/.354 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 234 plate appearances in the regular season. The 32-year-old veteran backstop will now head to Cincinnati, where he'll once again be in a backup role, this time behind Tyler Stephenson. His backup role won't provide him much fantasy value, if any at all, heading into the 2025 campaign. The former sixth-round pick by the Texas Rangers in 2014 out of Oral Roberts University carries a .236/.275/.362 career slash line with a .637 OPS and only 32 home runs in 399 games over seven MLB seasons.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
