Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana threw a simulated game on Monday. Quintana threw 63 pitches over five innings. Quintana focused on his inside fastball to righties as well as changing speeds on his curveball. Quintana should return top-30 value for starting pitchers in 2018 and makes for a fine SP2 in mixed leagues.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (biceps, shoulder) had additional tests on Thursday, and the results were promising, according to manager Pat Murphy. The Brewers are optimistic that it will be a minimum injured-list stint for Quintana, who is eligible to return on May 26. Quintana was put on the IL on Wednesday with a left-shoulder impingement, but it looks like it won't be long before he'll be back in the big leagues. If he does return when eligible, he'll be lined up for a matchup against the Boston Red Sox. The Colombian hurler has an ERA under 3.00 through his first six starts (34 innings) for the Brew Crew this year, but his 4.56 FIP indicates the soft-tossing lefty has been a bit fortunate to this point. Quintana also has only 24 strikeouts in his 34 innings pitched, and his lack of strikeout upside makes him a volatile low-upside fantasy streamer when he's healthy.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Tuesday that they placed left-hander Jose Quintana (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 11) with a left-shoulder impingement and recalled right-hander Tobias Myers from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Quintana dealt with some shoulder soreness in his last start. The Brewers were originally hoping to push the 36-year-old veteran southpaw back a few days to Saturday, but they have now made the move to sideline him for a couple of weeks to let him rest. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to return to Milwaukee's starting rotation when he's eligible on May 26. Myers, who was recently sent to Triple-A after a poor start, should fill in for Quintana in the rotation in the short term. Quintana had gone 4-1 with a 2.65 ERA and 1.23 WHIP but with only 24 K's in 34 innings in his six starts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (shoulder) is now listed as the team's probable starter for Saturday's game at home against the visiting Minnesota Twins, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. Quintana came out of his last outing last Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays with some soreness in his left shoulder, so the team will push him back a few days to give him a little extra time to recover. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw is expected to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday to see how his arm is feeling. Quintana has a solid 2.65 ERA in his six starts so far in 2025 for the Brew Crew, but he's struck out only 24 in 34 innings, and his 4.58 FIP shows that he's been a bit fortunate in the ERA department. The matchup against Minnesota this weekend is a decent one, but Quintana remains a shaky fantasy streamer with limited upside while dealing with a cranky shoulder recently.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (shoulder) has been dealing with left-shoulder soreness after his last time out last Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays and will get some extra days of rest this week before his next appearance, according to Bally Sports Wisconsin's Sophia Minnaert. Quintana said he was feeling better on Monday and plans to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday to get ready to start on either Friday or Saturday versus the Minnesota Twins. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw went 5 1/3 innings against Tampa, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out three for a no-decision. The Twins have been a favorable matchup for pitchers in 2025, but Quintana, who doesn't miss many bats, will be an even riskier fantasy streamer if he starts this weekend. He's gone 4-1 with a nice 2.65 ERA in six starts, but only with 24 K's in 34 innings.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
