Jose Quijada Gets First Save Wednesday
2 years agoLos Angeles Angels left-hander Jose Quijada picked up his first save of the season on Wednesday after pitching the ninth inning of the 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners. He allowed one hit but struck out one and kept the Mariners from scoring. It was Quijada's second appearance of the season, and thus far, he owns a 0.00 ERA with one strikeout across two innings. The Angels closer situation is pretty murky right now, as most in the baseball community figured a mix of Carlos Estevez, Jimmy Herget, and Ryan Tepera would share opportunities. But after posting a 3.98 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 30.8% strikeout rate over 40.2 innings in 2022, manager Phil Nevin might feel comfortable using Quijada in the ninth inning on occasion. It would be wise to stay away from the arms in the Angels bullpen until the situation becomes clearer.
