7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals first baseman Jose Martinez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. Martinez has been hot over the last week batting .412 with a .971 OPS, but this is the second straight day that he has been on the bench. This usually wouldn't be cause for too much concern, however this is the first lineup that the new interim manager Mike Shildt has put together and Martinez isn't in it. Though it doesn't matter for fantasy, Martinez's defense is a real liability to his playing time and could cause problems with the interim manager. Martinez is still a must start while he is playing close to everyday, but continue to monitor the playing time situation.
