Jose Leclerc Picks Up Save Number 1
4 years agoTexas Rangers closer Jose Leclerc shut the door on the Colorado Rockies to open the season on Friday night. Leclerc was tasked with saving a 1-0 lead for Texas, and he obliged with two strikeouts and a walk in his inning of work. He threw six straight balls to open his season, walking Ryan McMahon and put himself into a 2-0 hole against Raimel Tapia. Fortunately, Leclerc settled down after that and struck out Tapia and Sam Hilliard before getting Matt Kemp to pop out to end the game. The Rangers have a good enough staff to keeps games close, so Leclerc could have a lot of save opportunities in the 2020 season. If he can keep the walks under control, he has a chance at finishing as a top-10 closer.
