Jose Berrios Masterful In Tough Loss
3 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Jose Berrios took a tough loss Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox. Berrios was masterful, allowing one hit and two runs, one earned, over seven innings. The right-hander fanned 10 batters, firing 72 of 106 pitches for strikes and generating a strong 34 percent CSW. Berrios set the tone for the kind of outing it would be in the very first inning, striking out the side on 15 pitches. His curveball was outstanding, accounting for seven whiffs and eight called strikes, with White Sox hitters mustering just an 86.9 MPH average exit velocity against the pitch. Berrios has been a rock-solid SP2 this season and should be able to post strong numbers in his next start against the Detroit Tigers on July 11. The Tigers rank among the bottom 10 teams in OPS and have posted the worst strikeout rate in the majors.
