Jose Alvarado Faces Hitters Monday
1 year agoPhiladelphia Phillies reliever Jose Alvarado (elbow) faced live hitters on Monday, and it went well, according to MLB.com. If the southpaw feels fine on Tuesday, he'll likely begin a rehab assignment on Thursday and will need a couple of outings before he returns. Alvarado has been dominant this season, posting a 1.38 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 36.4% strikeout rate with six saves and six holds. However, the 28-year-old has pitched just 26 innings as he dealt with an elbow inflammation in May which resurfaced in July, forcing him to the IL on July 9. Fantasy owners can expect Alvarado to remain in a high-leverage role once he returns, but he might not receive enough save chances to be valuable in every format.
