Jose Alvarado Earns Third Save Tuesday Versus Miami
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jose Alvarado came in to finish off a marathon game Tuesday versus the Marlins. He was the ninth Rays pitcher of the game and would record the final two outs to close out the victory. The game lasted 16 innings and the usual closer Sergio Romo had already been used for two innings earlier. The save was Alvarado's third of the season and the second recently. It is clear that the Rays are willing to use Alvarado as a closer when Romo is unavailable or if there is an especially favorable matchup weighted to Alvarado's advantage. In very deep leagues or ones that reward both holds and saves, Alvarado is worth rostering.
