Jose Altuve May Not Hit Leadoff In 2022
3 years agoHouston Astros manager Dusty Baker is considering utilizing second baseman Jose Altuve as the team's No. 2 hitter this year. Last year, Altuve hit leadoff in each of the 144 games he started. However, Baker believes that Altuve's hitting style is better-suited for second in the order. Baker said, that last year, "Altuve led off because everybody asked him to lead off, not because that's where he feels comfortable." The change in the batting order position wouldn't have much of an effect on Altuve's fantasy value in 2022. However, we could see a big value boost for whoever does wind up as the team's leadoff hitter. We've seen shortstop Jeremy Pena and outfielder Chas McCormick bat leadoff this spring. Pena seems to be the more likely leadoff candidate at this point and he's someone worth targeting in the late rounds of deep leagues and AL-only leagues.
