Jorge Soler Won't Opt Out Of His Deal
2 years agoMiami Marlins left fielder Jorge Soler will not opt out of his deal with the team, according to a source. He will now make $15 million with the Marlins in 2023 and can opt out again after next season or exercise his final player option for $9 million in 2024. It makes sense after Soler was limited to just 72 games in his first year in Miami due to injuries. When he was on the field, he hit just .207/.295/.400 with 13 home runs, 34 RBI, 32 runs scored and 90 strikeouts in 306 plate appearances. If the 30-year-old right-handed slugger bounces back with a strong season in 2023, he'll be much more likely to opt out next winter. Soler has big-time power, but he's a shaky boom/bust hitter with plenty of swing and miss in his game in an offensively challenged Marlins lineup.
