Jorge Mateo Designated For Assignment
3 years agoThe San Diego Padres designated utilityman Jorge Mateo for assignment Tuesday. The move makes way for reliever Matt Strahm's (knee) activation from the 60-day IL. Mateo had played sparingly with the Friars, tallying a .572 OPS with two homers and five steals in 93 plate appearances. Once a highly touted prospect for the Oakland A's with blazing speed, the 26-year-old will be outrighted to Triple-A El Paso unless he's claimed. With a career 31 percent strikeout rate, Mateo's inability to reach base diminishes him as a weapon on the basepaths. He shouldn't be a highly regarded fantasy piece in dynasty.
