Jorge Lopez Takes Hard-Luck Loss
5 years agoKansas City Royals pitcher Jorge Lopez put together one of his best starts of the season on Tuesday against the Athletics, but some slip-ups in the seventh inning cost him the victory. After six innings, Lopez had a 1-0 lead and had allowed just two hits. Unfortunately, he went back out for the seventh inning, and it quickly fell apart. Matt Olson hammered a leadoff home run, Lopez hit Mark Canha, and Seth Brown laced a run-scoring double to right-center. Lopez was lifted after that hitter, but the damage was already done, and the Royals would lose 2-1. Lopez has struggled throughout the season in both starting and relieving, but he's on a roll at the moment. This was his first loss in three starts, and he's got 2.08 ERA over the last 17 1/3 innings. Be wary though. His strikeout rate is under six, he's only allowed one home run, and he's rocking a 5.00 xFIP for that same time period.
