Jorge Alfaro Returns To The Red Sox
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox signed free-agent catcher Jorge Alfaro to an undisclosed major-league contract on Thursday, and he'll be active on Thursday night against the visiting Texas Rangers in Beantown. Alfaro joined the Colorado Rockies for 10 games after opting out of his minor-league deal with the Red Sox in June, but now he's back in Boston. The 30-year-old veteran backstop went 5-for-31 (.161) with a homer, four doubles and four RBI in his 10 contests with the Rockies. With Reese McGuire (oblique) currently injured, Alfaro will serve as Connor Wong's backup in his return to Boston. Alfaro isn't much of a fantasy option and won't see regular playing time. He's a career .245 hitter with 48 homers and 198 RBI in 1,690 plate appearances over eight seasons in the majors.

Jorge Alfaro Released By The Red Sox
2 years agoBoston Red Sox catcher Jorge Alfaro has officially been released by the team on Saturday. Alfaro opted out of his minor league contract earlier this week so Boston decided to release him in lieu of promoting him to the big league club. The 29-year-old backstop hit .246 with a .668 OPS over 256 at-bats last season for the Padres and offers a decent blend of power and speed from the catcher position. He should latch on to another club shortly.
