Jordan Montgomery Tests Positive For COVID-19
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery has tested positive for COVID-19, per Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. Montgomery is the second Yankees pitcher, along with Gerrit Cole, to test positive for the virus as the club's struggles with outbreaks continue. General manager Brian Cashman said he expects Montgomery and Cole to be sidelined for 10 days unless they can accrue two negative tests before then. It's a sudden test of New York's rotation depth with Domingo German (shoulder) also sidelined, which is likely why the team felt compelled to call up prospect Luis Gil, who will start Tuesday. Gil seems likely to make a couple of starts at the big league level until one or both of Cole and Montgomery are fit to return.
