Jordan Montgomery Strikes Out Nine In Victory
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery authored his best outing of the season in Tuesday's win over the Rays, his second victory of the year. Montgomery pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out nine batters, matching his career-high. The 28-year-old southpaw induced 17 whiffs, nine of them on his changeup, which was also his best putaway pitch on the evening. Montgomery probably had enough left in the tank for the seventh inning, though manager Aaron Boone was content to let the bullpen finish the job. Montgomery will carry a 3.96 ERA and 37:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 38 2/3 innings into his next start against the Orioles on May 16. He pitched six shutout innings in his first outing of the year against Baltimore.
