9 months agoNew York Yankees second base/third base prospect Jorbit Vivas is being promoted to the major league roster, according to Andy Martino of SNY. In a corresponding move, J.D. Davis will be placed on the injured list with an undisclosed injury. Vivas has performed very well in his second look at Triple-A ball this season. Through 37 total games, the 23-year-old has posted a solid .258/.404/.424 line with five home runs, eight stolen bases, and 19 RBI. However, in his past 13 games, the infielder has been swinging a hot bat with an eye-catching .375/.474/.646 slash line. Vivas is ranked as the 15th-best prospect in the Yankee system on MLB Pipeline. He is worth adding in deeper leagues for now and could become a must-add in all leagues if he can carve out a full-time playing role. With Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu struggling to find consistency at the plate, Vivas may claim one of these positions fairly quickly. UPDATE: Davis was put on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 9) with the stomach flu.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

9 months agoNew York Yankees infield prospect Jorbit Vivas went 3-for-4 on Thursday evening with two singles and a home run to extend his current hitting streak to five games. During this stretch, Vivas has tallied at least two hits three times and launched two long balls. This is the 23-year-old first extended look at Triple-A, as he logged only 26 games at this level at the end of last summer. This season, he holds a solid .253/.400/.389 line with a 21:24 BB:K ratio compared to last summer, where he posted a .225/.339/.294 line with a 15:19 BB:K ratio. In addition, Vivas began the season on a cold stretch through April which has slightly negatively affected his ratios. Vivas has a strong chance to reach the major leagues in the second half of the season and could be worth a speculative add in AL-only formats when given the call.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers second base prospect Jorbit Vivas signed for $300,000 back in 2017. The Venezuelan prospect has long been regarded as a talented hitter with great contact and an elite knack for putting the ball in play. Just 5-foot-10, Vivas has a good feel for the zone and his overall presence at the plate. He produces a quick swing and might just be the best pure hitter in the Dodgers system. However, his running and defensive abilities are less intriguing. Vivas is merely average defensively, explaining why he's destined for second base rather than a role on the left side of the infield. Still, the Los Angeles organization can always count on Vivas to log base hits, and this was especially true during the last week of minor-league action. The 21-year-old went 14-for-25 with eight RBI, three walks, and a whopping zero strikeouts. His lack of power is a con from a fantasy baseball perspective, but there's still a lot to like about his sound approach and tendency to log base hits.--Andersen Pickard - RotoBaller
