Joohyung Kim Faces A Stiff Test This Week In Chicago
1 year agoOn the back of some stellar putting and pinpoint iron play, Joohyung Kim has suddenly jolted his 2023 season back to life. He's recorded finishes of 24th, second, and sixth over his last three starts and currently sits 18th in the season-long standings, which is mighty impressive for a 21-year-old kid that had no semblance of Tour status 15 months ago. Kim faces an extremely stiff test in Chicago this week, however, as the demanding confines of Olympia Fields don't exactly present the best course fit for the short-hitting Korean. With recent rains softening up the golf course, we project power players to have a substantial leg up in the ball-striking department, but Kim has proven before that he's not afraid to contend at bigger courses (T8 at LACC, T6 at Renaissance Club, T16 at Augusta National). He's certainly got the ability, but his lack of length will provide a greater hindrance here than most weeks on Tour. A top-20 finish would be more than acceptable around this track.
