Jonnu Smith Attending OTAs After Skipping Last Year
3 years agoNew England Patriots tight end Jonnu Smith will be attending the team's voluntary workouts. The 26-year-old skipped last year's offseason program (his first as a Patriot) due to the birth of his daughter and seems intent on extra time at the facility entering his second season with the team. "(Last year) I had a baby, man, so I definitely missed a lot," Smith said after Day 1 of organized team activities. "And then in minicamp, I had (an injury), so my offseason was choppy. I had some great things like my baby girl being born, and I had some unfortunate setbacks, as well. I definitely missed some quality time here, man, and I recognize how valuable that time is. I'm just trying to take advantage of that." Smith finished 2021 with a disappointing 28 receptions on 45 targets, with 294 yards and one touchdown after signing a four-year $50 million contract. He remains behind tight end Hunter Henry on the depth chart, but the team may opt for frequent 2TE sets to support the run game.

Jonnu Smith Remains Strong Fantasy Option For Week 18
3 months agoMiami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith remains an appealing fantasy option ahead of Sunday's Week 18 contest against the New York Jets. There are many moving parts ahead of the Dolphins' regular-season finale, including the injury statuses of key offensive weapons such as Tua Tagovailoa (hip), Jaylen Waddle (knee), and Tyreek Hill (wrist, illness). As it stands, Tagovailoa is expected to be sidelined, leaving Tyler Huntley as the Dolphins' starting quarterback for the second week in a row. Smith saw a significantly reduced target share with Huntley under center last week, catching three of four targets for 26 yards. He had his lowest target total, reception total, yardage total, and snap share since Week 10. However, he managed to snag a touchdown pass in the win, salvaging his fantasy performance and giving him seven consecutive games with double-digit fantasy points (PPR). He ranks as the overall TE4 this season, and while the insertion of Huntley under center does lower Smith's ceiling and floor, we still view the 29-year-old tight end as a top-eight fantasy option at his position heading into Week 18.

Jonnu Smith Finds End Zone Vs. Browns
3 months agoMiami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith hit pay dirt against the Cleveland Browns, hauling in a game-clinching touchdown to cap a day with three catches and 26 yards in the Dolphins' 20-3 win at Cleveland. All things considered, it wasn't a bad day for the veteran tight end, who saw a major downgrade at quarterback with Tua Tagovailoa (hip) unable to play, thrusting backup Tyler Huntley into a must-win game. Bad weather and two backup quarterbacks led to ugly offensive football on both ends, but Smith still scratched out some fantasy value with Miami's lone receiving touchdown. He ended up being one of the best fantasy values at any position this year, and will conclude the regular season Sunday at the New York Jets.

Jonnu Smith A Risky Play Without Starting Quarterback
3 months agoMiami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith becomes a risky TE1 with Tua Tagovailoa (hip) listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns. Since Week 11, Smith has averaged a stellar 19.8 PPR points per game. Over this span he has tallied 75.8 yards and 7.2 receptions per game. However, Smith could be due for a drop in production, especially if his QB1 cannot suit up. During Weeks 3 through 5, where Tagovailoa did not play, Smith averaged a mere 26.7 yards and 2.3 receptions per game. While fantasy managers in deeper formats may not have an alternative, he should be faded in DFS formats given the uncertainty under center. The entire Miami offense could struggle in this contest which will greatly limit his overall ceiling. He is a low-end TE1 with risk.

Jonnu Smith A TE1 Despite Tough Conditions Against Browns
3 months agoMiami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith has had the best season of his career and has become one of the most crucial pieces to the offense. Since Week 8, Smith has been the TE1 and is fifth in touchdowns on the year. Week 17 presents a matchup with the Cleveland Browns, who rank 11th in fantasy points and 12th in yards per game to opposing tight ends. To make matters worse, there is a 50% chance of rain and 25+ mph winds projected in Cleveland at kickoff. However, we've seen him beat less-than-ideal conditions and be a safety blanket for Tua Tagovailoa. Start him as a solid TE1 in the championship week. He comes in as RotoBaller's TE6 in the Week 17 rankings.
