Jonathan Stiever Gets The Starting Nod On Friday
4 years agoChicago White Sox pitcher Jonathan Stiever will make his first spring training start on Friday against the Seattle Mariners. The 23-year-old Stiever made his MLB debut with the team last year. He struggled over his two starts in 2020, going 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. He had a strong 2019 season, split between Low-A and High-A. He posted a 3.48 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 26 starts and 145 innings while averaging 9.6 K/9. He's a long shot to make the team's starting rotation to open the year. He will probably begin the year in the minors, but could see some spot starts if the team suffers any injuries or if any of their initial starters struggle.
