Jonathan Loaisiga "Looks Outstanding"
2 years agoNew York Yankees right-handed reliever Jonathan Loaisiga "looks outstanding" this spring, according to manager Aaron Boone. Loaisiga had the distinction of being the slowest pitcher in baseball last year with nobody on base, but this year he'll be forced to speed up with the new pitch clock in play. He had a 7.02 ERA over 16 2/3 innings last May when he landed on the injured list. But thanks to a mechanical tweak after he returned, he finished with a 1.76 ERA in his final 31 games. The Yankees are banking on Loaisiga returning to his second-half form from a year ago as one of their most trusted high-leverage bullpen arms. The 28-year-old won't have many save chances, but he'll be plenty useful in holds leagues if he pitches like he did down the stretch in 2022.
