Jonathan Cannon To Start On Saturday
4 months agoChicago White Sox rookie right-hander Jonathan Cannon will make his return to the big leagues and start on Saturday against the division-rival Royals in Kansas City. Cannon made his first 10 big-league appearances (eight starts) for the Pale Hose in the first half and went 1-3 with a 4.41 ERA (4.18 FIP) and 1.31 WHIP with 39 strikeouts and 13 walks in 51 innings pitched. The 23-year-old former third-round pick in 2022 out of Georgia gave up four earned runs in six innings in his last outing as a bulk reliever last Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cannon's last start was a quality start on July 7 against the Marlins, when he went six innings while giving up an earned run with four walks and three K's. He'll be making at least two starts in Chicago's rotation to open up the second half of the season, but he'll need to pitch well to stick around. Cannon gave up just one run in five innings in his MLB debut against KC on April 17, but this Saturday will be a matchup to avoid.
