Jonathan Bernier Joining Red Wings On Three-Year Deal
6 years agoThe Red Wings announced on Sunday their signing of Jonathan Bernier to a three-year $9 million contract. Bernier will share the crease with starter Jimmy Howard, who has one year left on his current five-year contract. Over the last two seasons, Bernier boasts a record of 40-19-7 split between Colorado and Anaheim. A backup for the bulk of his career, Bernier may have the opportunity to succeed Howard as the Wings’ starter if and only if Howard does not extend. Bernier has played almost 40 games in each of his last three NHL seasons, but Jimmy Howard, when healthy, has played around 50-60 games per season. Bernier is a very dependable backup goalie and should be a good streaming option for fantasy starts.
