Jonah Heim Bats Ninth, Makes Major League Debut Tuesday
4 years agoOakland Athletics catcher Jonah Heim is batting ninth and catching Tuesday against Texas and right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson. Heim’s appearance will mark his Major League debut and it comes with some considerable pomp since he ranks as Oakland’s No. 11 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. In 35 games at Triple-A last season, Heim slashed .358/.412/.557 with 13 extra-base hits. Manager Bob Melvin has already made it clear that Heim is likely to see the vast majority of playing time against right-handed pitching moving forward, which could give him some season-long intrigue for aggressive owners in need of offensive production out of the catcher spot.
