Jon Gray Takes Loss Against Arizona
6 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray didn't have a terrible outing on Saturday in Arizona, but the three earned runs he allowed were enough to overcome his offense. A two-run home run by Jake Lamb in the sixth inning did Gray in, ending his day prematurely. Gray had been on a roll recently with three quality starts in a row, but giving up eight hits in just five-plus innings on Saturday forced him out of the game before he could finish the sixth. Gray has quietly been an excellent starter for the last six weeks or so, following a rough patch in early May. Gray has posted a stellar 3.13 ERA since May 22, and his xFIP of 3.88 indicates the success is mostly due to skill, not luck. He should get a draw with the Reds following the All-Star break, and owners will hope he can keep up the good work.
