Johnny Cueto Nearing A Return
5 years agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (elbow) threw 49 pitches in 2 2/3 innings in his third rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Thursday and is scheduled to throw 55 to 60 pitches in his next outing. Cueto had Tommy John surgery last year, but the Giants could accelerate his timetable in order to help them try and win a wild-card playoff spot. Manager Bruce Bochy said Cueto was "pretty close to 100 percent." It seems to be a lock that the right-hander will be pitching in September, although he'll be a risky bet to return much fantasy value in what might only be a handful of starts in a best-case scenario. Cueto was 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA in nine starts last year before having season-ending surgery.
