1 year agoHouston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III (hamstring) is cleared for training camp action. The 22-year-old missed his entire 2022 rookie season after an Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia diagnosis but was trending toward being able to play in 2023. He suffered a setback to a hamstring injury in the spring but is now recovered from that, too. The Alabama product was selected by Houston in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft after posting 96 receptions for 1,142 yards, and eight touchdowns in his junior campaign. His primary competition for targets will be Nico Collins, Robert Woods, and Dalton Schultz -- so he's a legitimate candidate to lead the team in receiving.
