9 months agoJohn Hunter Nemechek did not practice well on Saturday. The Legacy Motor Club car started off 36th in practice and then qualified 32nd at Pocono. His time was 0.995 seconds off of the lap delivered by Ty Gibbs. Expecting much from the No. 42 car could be difficult. Nemechek did not practice well and kept losing tenths coming off the banked turns of Pocono. This is the first time the Toyota driver is racing at the Cup level. It will be intriguing to see what happens as the race goes along on Sunday. Can Nemechek get close to Erik Jones, who qualified 23rd? That is a huge question mark. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoJohn Hunter Nemechek has gotten off to a fast start through the first four races of the 2025 Cup Series season, as the Legacy Motor Club driver currently sits 13th in the points standings and has just one finish worse than 14th this year: a 22nd-place result at COTA. Now the series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and iconic boyband Backstreet Boys is on the hood for Nemechek's No. 42 Toyota. And honestly, this track hasn't been awful for John Hunter--relatively speaking. In addition to his ninth-place finish here last fall, Nemechek has three other results between 20th and 24th in his other Cup Series starts at this track. That makes Las Vegas his third-best track on the schedule when it comes to average finish. This weekend, the No. 42 Toyota was just 30th-fastest in both practice and qualifying, but Nemechek's Legacy Motor Club teammate, Erik Jones, showed good speed. As a low-dollar ($5,500) Place Differential play, John Hunter is a decent option at Las Vegas this weekend. --Jordan McAbee

4 weeks agoJohn Hunter Nemechek of Legacy Motor Club obtained a starting position of 36th after qualifying for this week's Shriners Children's 500 at Phoenix Raceway. This is the lowest starting position of Nemechek's Cup career to date at Phoenix and the first time he will start outside of the top 30 at the site. In five starts at Phoenix, Nemechek's best finish is 25th, and he also has two finishes with positive Place Differential. In practice, Nemechek ranked 20th in overall lap averages while ranking as high as 31st in 25 consecutive lap averages. Nemechek's practice speeds were not impressive, and his Phoenix history also is not great. Still, his enormous upside from his starting position makes him worth consideration as a safe cash game play, especially for his cheap salary ($5,300).--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

1 month agoAfter a miserable 2024, John Hunter Nemechek is improbably one of only two drivers to earn top-10 finishes in the first two races this season, but those both came on drafting tracks that have little to do with the rest of the schedule, so his performance in previous years is probably more important when forecasting his performance at Austin. In last year's event, he was not much of a factor, starting 22nd and finishing 21st. This year, however, he has qualified 33rd and seems to be even slower, although he only qualified one position worse than his Legacy Motor Club teammate Erik Jones. Even though they both qualified so badly and are cheap, they have been so slow on non-drafting tracks of late that they are probably very negligible in terms of DFS value.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

1 month agoJohn Hunter Nemechek will start 22nd for this week's Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This will be the highest starting position of Nemechek's Cup career at the site since the track's reconfiguration in 2022. In two races since 2022 at Atlanta, Nemechek has two finishes with position place differential and a best finish of 21st. In last week's Daytona 500, Nemechek started the race in 18th and ended up in fifth place. Nemechek's DFS salary this week is one of the cheapest on both sites, and he offers adequate upside based on his starting position. Although his history at Atlanta is fine, the No. 42 Toyota driver is someone who makes for a decent option for all DFS formats for this week.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
