Joey Wentz Will Make His MLB Debut Wednesday
Joey Wentz will make his MLB debut against the Oakland A's on Wednesday. Wentz has made five starts for Triple-A Toledo this season, posting a 4.12 ERA and an eye-popping 11.90 K/9. The 24-year-old hurler is generally regarded as a top-10 prospect in the Detroit farm system, boasting a pedestrian fastball but a plus changeup. Wentz missed all of the 2020 season following Tommy John surgery but was able to make 18 appearances in 2021, split between Single-A and Double-A. Fantasy managers will probably want to take a wait-and-see approach with the youngster when it comes to potentially utilizing him as a streaming option.

Joey Wentz Recalled, Will Pitch On Saturday
Joey Wentz has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo and will pitch in Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins. Wentz is set to work after Tigers opener Beau Brieske starts the game. Wentz has struggled mightily this season with a 6.78 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, and 66:31 K/BB ratio over 71 2/3 innings (16 appearances, 15 starts). There's no fantasy appeal here. Relief pitcher Trey Wingenter has been optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Joey Wentz To Fill In As Tigers Fifth Starter
Joey Wentz will fill in for the injured Michael Lorenzen as the Tigers fifth starter. The southpaw will face the juggernaut Houston Astros on Tuesday, April 4, at Minute Maid Park. The No. 9-ranked prospect in the Tigers system made his major-league debut late last season, starting in seven games with an ERA of 3.03. However, there is cause for concern, as Wentz did have an xFIP of 4.56 and a SIERA of 4.58. While his 2022 may have been a bit fluky, the 22-year-old didn't perform terribly against the Astros last season, allowing only two runs in four innings pitched. If you need a one-time plug-in starter for the first week of the fantasy season, Wentz should be one of your options on the waiver wire.

Tigers Option Joey Wentz
Joey Wentz on Monday. The 24-year-old made seven starts for Detroit as a rookie this season, logging 32.2 innings and pitching to an encouraging 3.03 ERA and a 3.54 FIP. He also added 27 strikeouts and walked 13 batters. Wentz figures to be part of the Tigers' rotation mix next season alongside the likes of Eduardo Rodriguez, Tarik Skubal, Spencer Turnbull, Matt Manning, and Beau Brieske. The Tigers also recalled right-hander Bryan Garcia from Triple-A on Monday.

Joey Wentz To Start Friday For Tigers
Joey Wentz will start on Friday at the Royals and that the team expects him to make several more starts through the rest of the season, per MLB's Adrian Garro. The 24-year-old lefty got called up in May and made two starts, posting a bloated 8.10 ERA in the small sample. However, he has been a solid starter at Triple-A Toledo, going 2-2 with a 3.17 ERA and a 9.87 K/9 rate in 48 1/3 innings pitched. The Royals do present a good matchup, but Wentz's previous couple of starts make him difficult to trust, especially this late in the season.
