Joey Wendle Should Start Rehab Assignment Soon
2 years agoMiami Marlins infielder Joey Wendle (intercostal) took ground balls before the team's game against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. Wendle said there are a couple more boxes for him to check still, but he should be starting a minor-league rehab assignment soon. He has been on the injured list since April 4 with a right intercostal strain after he was scratched from the lineup on April 3 against the Minnesota Twins. With Wendle out, Jon Berti has been seeing most of the starts at shortstop for the Marlins. Before landing on the injured list, the 32-year-old veteran played in just four games for the Fish and went hitless in nine plate appearances with a walk and two strikeouts. He'll be looking for his first hit in 2023 when he returns to the active roster.
