Joey Slye Will Look To Snap Out Of Funk Friday
3 years agoCarolina Panthers kicker Joey Slye has struggled at times during camp and preseason so far, though he can right the ship with a good showing Friday against Pittsburgh. Slye nailed 4 of 5 field-goal attempts in the first preseason contest and 1 of 2 in the second, though he's had some shaky performances, including three missed kicks in 11-on-11 drills during Wednesday's practice. Entering his third season, Slye has been a strong kicker in the 20-39-yard range, though his accuracy from longer distances, 24 of 36 from 40 yards or further, hasn't been nearly as good. The Panthers recently signed kicker Dominik Eberle and traded for Ryan Santoso, as the team is keeping its options open. Kicking for a Panthers team that could have an improved offense, Slye should be on fantasy managers' radars in 2021, though he will have to have a solid showing Friday night to remain the starter for Week 1.
