Joey Logano Locks Himself Into Championship Race With Fuel-Mileage Win
1 month agoA mere week ago, Joey Logano left the Charlotte roval thinking he had failed to advance to the Round of 8 until Alex Bowman's disqualification unexpectedly let him back in. With his win in yesterday's South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, he became the first driver to lock himself into the championship race at Phoenix, extending his streak of making the championship round in every even-numbered year and only the even-numbered years. For the second time this season, Logano won on fuel mileage. He took his only lead of the race from Daniel Suarez (who also made it on one fewer pit stop) with six laps remaining. Although Christopher Bell, the dominant driver in the race, worked his way around Suarez, he came up less than a second short of passing Logano, who at this point might be the luckiest driver in NASCAR history.
