Joey Logano Had Best Pit Strategy But Lacked Winning Speed at Martinsville
8 months agoJoey Logano had an extremely consistent run at Martinsville yesterday, both starting and finishing sixth and ranking seventh in speed. Although he outran his defending champion teammate, Ryan Blaney, for most of the race, Blaney ran better in the final stage and ended up beating Logano by a single position. Logano led most of Stage 2 after beating Kyle Larson out of the pits on the first stage break caution because he took two tires when most of the other contenders took four. Although this seemed to be the correct strategy based on how difficult passing was, few others ventured to make that call. After leading 84 laps, Logano was unable to sustain the lead and faded back to his average running position in the end.
