Joey Gallo Slugging Just .389 Through Two Months
3 years agoTexas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo hit seven home runs in May, but he's not making the type of hard contact we've seen him make in prior years. Gallo was extremely disappointing in 2020, when he slashed .181/.301/.378 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI over 57 games. This year so far, he's been looking like a similar player, slashing .211/.360/.389 with nine home runs and 25 RBI over 53 games. His career slugging percentage is .487 and he slugged .598 back in 2019, when he hit 22 home runs in 70 games. From 2017 through 2019, he maintained a barrel rate around 23% and a hard-hit rate around 50%. This year, he has a 15.4% barrel rate and a 42.3% hard-hit rate. Gallo should still be a strong source of home runs, but he may not have the 40 home run upside he had in previous years.
