Joe Musgrove In "A Great Spot For Sunday"
6 months agoSan Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt said he thinks that right-hander Joe Musgrove (elbow) is in "a great spot for Sunday" to return from the injured list to start in Atlanta against the Braves. The skipper said the team will continue to see how Musgrove recovers after playing catch on Friday and throwing a bullpen session the other day. The Padres put the 31-year-old veteran on the injured list on May 5 with right-elbow inflammation, and he's thrown two bullpen sessions already. It looks like he won't be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment, so fantasy managers would probably be wise to avoid Musgrove in Atlanta against a strong offensive squad, especially since he wasn't pitching all that well before hitting the IL. In 41 innings so far in 2024, Musgrove has an unsightly 6.37 ERA and 1.51 WHIP, although he did fan nine hitters in six innings against the Reds his last time out on May 1.
