Joe Mantiply Picks Up Save For Diamondbacks
3 years agoArizona Diamondbacks reliever Joe Mantiply picked up his first career save on Saturday, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the team's 5-2 win over the Mets. With closer Mark Melancon working the previous two nights, it was the left-hander who got the call to seal the victory as he recorded a strikeout and a pair of ground outs in the 12-pitch frame. Mantiply has been sharp this season over 6 2/3 innings of scoreless work despite not having a prototypical overpowering arm with just three strikeouts to date. Melancon remains the top closing option in Arizona, so Mantiply can just be a name to stash away in case something were to happen to the 37-year-old veteran.
