1 year agoChicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly notched his first save of the season on Sunday, securing a 5-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. With Kendall Graveman working two days in a row, Kelly became to go-to option when a save situation arose in this one. He did a good job with the opportunity, setting down the Royals in order while striking out a pair. The 34-year-old is turning back the clock this year, posting a 2.70 ERA and 0.60 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 13⅓ IP. He hasn't allowed an earned run in nine appearances, which dates back to April 27. Although he probably won't get many save opportunities, he appears to be in a good position to pick up a bunch of holds and work in high-leverage situations.
