Jimmy Howard Bested By Devan Dubnyk, Minnesota Wild
7 years agoDetroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard gave up three goals on 26 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Howard looked strong for half the game, making several impressive saves through the first and second periods and only allowed goals on redirected shots. Detroit’s offense couldn’t provide relief to the 33-year-old, however, and surrendered a late empty-net goal to Jason Zucker. Howard has been tabbed as the clear No. 1 since Detroit traded away Petr Mrazek to the Philadelphia Flyers and has started each of the Red Wings last seven games. During this time, Howard has only won two games, however, and posted a 2.57 goals-against average. While his performance is middling at best, his consistent playing time may be valuable in deeper leagues where starting goalies may be hard to come by. Detroit returns to action Tuesday night against the surging Boston Bruins.
