3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (calf) will take the practice field Friday, per head coach Kyle Shanahan. Garoppolo hasn't practiced yet this week but will give it a go Friday, with Shanahan noting that the team wants to see how well he can step into his throws. If the veteran signal-caller looks good, he'll have a shot to suit up, though the odds certainly don't look to be in his favor. If Garoppolo is inactive, the quarterback duties will go to rookie Trey Lance, who fired two touchdowns and ran for 41 yards in just one half of football last week against Seattle. Arizona presents a much stiffer test on defense, though Lance would immediately be in the high-end QB2/low-end QB1 range thanks to his rushing ability. Depending on Garoppolo's status, Lance could run away with the job in San Francisco.--Tim Capurso
