Jimmy Garoppolo, Jerick McKinnon Progressing Well
6 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) and running back Jerick McKinnon (knee), who both tore their ACLs in 2018, are both doing well in their rehabs and haven't had any setbacks. McKinnon tore his ACL a week before the regular season began, while Garoppolo tore his in the fourth quarter of Week 3 against the Chiefs. General manager John Lynch said the team expects Garoppolo to be ready by the start of training camp in late July, and he might even be cleared by the beginning of organized team activities in late May. McKinnon is six weeks ahead of his original timetable and is also expected to be full go for training camp. Lynch spotted Garoppolo throwing to McKinnon just last week. Garoppolo has started just 10 games in his NFL career but has a ton of upside in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense moving forward. He's best drafted as a QB2 with upside in 2019. McKinnon was a popular breakout candidate in 2018 but never had a chance to get off the ground. With Matt Breida emerging in 2018, it's fair to wonder how big of a role McKinnon will have next season, but he could be a sneaky upside pick in PPR leagues after missing all of 2018.
