Jeurys Familia Signs With Phillies
3 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies signed free-agent relief pitcher Jeurys Familia to a $6 million deal on Saturday night. The 31-year-old right-hander has plenty of experience in the ninth inning in his 10-year major league career, as he's saved 125 games in 498 2/3 innings pitched. Familia had just one save for the New York Mets in 2021, but he could enter the closing mix with his new club if Corey Knebel falters or gets injured in Philadelphia. In 65 relief appearances last year, Familia had a decent 3.94 ERA and 1.42 WHIP while striking out 72 and walking 27 in 59 1/3 innings. An All-Star back in 2016, the right-hander will be a closing handcuff for Knebel owners in deeper leagues.
