month agoThe New York Jets are fully expected to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2025, but The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the team presented the future Hall of Famer with a plan to move forward with him as their QB. The Jets' plan included stipulations about outside media work during the season and required that he attend all mandatory offseason workouts, according to team and league sources. Specifically, Rodgers would no longer be allowed to make regular, paid appearances on "The Pat McAfee Show." Apparently, Rodgers wasn't inclined to agree with those stipulations, and the Jets are expected to release the 41-year-old, who still has one year left on his contract. If the four-time MVP chooses to return for a 21st year in the NFL, it will be with another organization. Rodgers' two-year run in New York was highly disappointing after he tore his Achilles in Week 1 in 2023.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

days agoThe Minnesota Vikings are reportedly seriously discussing the possibility of signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Vikings appear to be committed to J.J. McCarthy as their future starter, but they'd like to add another capable option in case the former first-round pick isn't ready yet. Rodgers has already received interest from both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. Now, the Vikings appear ready to throw their hat in the mix. The difference with the Vikings is that Rodgers wouldn't have to commit to being the full-time starter for the entire season. McCarthy would likely take over at some point, but having a veteran like Rodgers could be helpful.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

days agoThe Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the Minnesota Vikings decision-makers are still evaluating all of their options at quarterback, including the possibility of signing free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers. The four-time MVP is intrigued by the idea of playing in Minnesota, where he'd get to play his old team, the Green Bay Packers, twice a year. However, the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer is primarily choosing between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants after being officially labeled a post-June 1 cut by the New York Jets on Wednesday. Rodgers' decision is reportedly not about money at all but rather team fit. Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones both left Minnesota in free agency, leaving last year's first-rounder, J.J. McCarthy (knee) as the likely starter in Week 1, so bringing in Rodgers at this juncture could be sending the wrong message to the next franchise signal-caller. However, the Vikings do value QB depth and have said before they won't push McCarthy to start if he's not completely ready.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

days agoThe New York Jets are officially releasing quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as expected, on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Jets will take on $49 million in dead money with the move as a post-June 1 cut, which means they'll carry his $21 million salary cap hit until June 1, at which point it will drop to $14 million. It saves the Jets $7 million, but then they will have to absorb a $35 million dead-cap hit in 2026. The Jets already informed the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer a while ago that they'd be moving on from him after two disappointing seasons in 2023 and 2024, and Rodgers is reportedly deciding between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants as he looks to play for one or two more years. The Minnesota Vikings could also become an option. The Steelers could be the most attractive for Rodgers, especially after they traded for receiver DK Metcalf last weekend.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

days agoFOX Sports' Ralph Vacchiano reports that free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is deciding between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. He's also hoping that the Minnesota Vikings will get involved. The fallback option for both the Steelers and Giants appears to be Russell Wilson. If Rodgers signs with the Vikings and Wilson re-signs with Pittsburgh, the Giants would then be left with options such as Jameis Winston, Joe Flacco and Marcus Mariota. They'd almost certainly take a QB in the upcoming draft with the third overall pick or trade up to No. 1 to get one. A source insisted that Rodgers' decision was all about the situation and fit, not the money. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer is expected to make his decision on Wednesday. Rodgers would have a nice receiver duo of DK Metcalf and George Pickens in Pittsburgh, although he still figures to be no better than a midrange QB2 in fantasy wherever he lands.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
