Jesse Winker Hits First Home Run Of The Season
7 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jesse Winker went 2-for-4 with a single and a solo home run on Thursday in a win over the Pirates. The blast to straightaway center field was Winker's first of the season. The 24-year-old has held his own as a regular in the lineup, batting .257 with a .353 on-base percentage and a .340 slugging percentage. While he does not provide much power or speed, Winker has great plate discipline (12% walk rate and 14.4% strikeout rate over 167 plate appearances), which should manifest itself in a higher batting average and a high OBP over time. Winker will spend the next series in the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field against the Rockies.
