Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez Traded To The Mariners
3 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jesse Winker and infielder Eugenio Suarez were traded to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Justin Dunn, Brandon Williamson, and Jake Fraley on Monday. Winker was terrific for the Reds last season, slashing .305/.393/.556 slash line with 24 home runs, 32 doubles, 77 runs, and 71 RBI in 110 games. His season was cut short after landing on the injured list with an intercostal strain on September 18. He is fully healthy, heading into Spring Training. Winker is under team control until 2023 and should hit in the heart of the order for an improving Seattle lineup that includes Mitch Haniger, Jarred Kelenic, and Ty France. Suarez has elite power, smashing 30-plus homers in three of the last four seasons. Despite the 30-year-old having raw power, he hit a career-worst .198 and struck out a whopping 29.8% of the time. The Mariners will take on the $35 million owed to him in the deal with the Reds. Suarez will serve as Seattle's everyday third baseman and should provide fantasy managers with solid counting stats, but expect the former Red to be a drain on your team's batting average.
