Jesse Hahn Earns The Save On Monday
4 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Jesse Hahn closed out Monday's 3-0 win over the Cleveland Indians to earn his first save of the year. Hahn allowed a hit and a walk and didn't record any strikeouts while pitching the ninth inning. Hahn has been extremely active so far. This was his third appearance in four games, though his first in a save opportunity. Greg Holland is presumed to be the primary closer for the team. Holland pitched in Thursday's season opener, but hasn't appeared since. Monday's game seemed like the ideal occasion for Holland, but Royals manager Mike Matheny went with Hahn instead. It might be a bit of a frustrating closer-by-committee situation in Kansas City. For what it's worth, Holland was warming up in the bullpen after Hahn allowed some base runners. Holland is still probably the best bet overall for saves going forward, but Monday's game was clear evidence that Holland won't be the only reliever up for saves on the team.
