Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry was forced to exit Thursday's season opener against Pittsburgh early due to an upper-body injury. He was ruled out for the rest of the game early in the third period. Petry finished scoreless and had one shot with one hit and a minus-one rating across 9:34 of action. The veteran skated on the second defensive pairing. Albert Johansson looks set to hop into the lineup to replace him on Saturday versus Nashville if Petry is sidelined. The 23-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut but has shown good ability in the minors, collecting 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 66 appearances last season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

According to the team, the Detroit Red Wings placed defenseman Jeff Petry (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve, retroactive to Jan. 2. The 37-year-old sustained this injury on Jan. 2 during their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and will not be eligible to return until Friday. However, seeing him placed on Injured Reserve now suggests that he may have a longer recovery window. Through 34 games this season, Petry has scored one goal and tallied five helpers. He has logged 39 hits with 56 blocked shots. While sidelined, Albert Johansson will continue to draw starts.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry (lower body) is considered day-to-day. The 36-year-old veteran missed Monday's practice and might have to sit out Tuesday's game against Boston. Petry averages nearly 19 minutes of ice time for the Red Wings and has even seen regular power-play time lately, but he's been limited to three assists in 20 games on the offensive front this season, failing to score with 13 efforts on net. Petry's work has included 36 blocks and 27 hits. Albert Johansson, who has one assist through 13 outings, is expected to join the lineup if Petry is a no-go for Tuesday.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry will be a healthy scratch for Friday's matchup against Toronto. He comes out of the lineup after amassing a minus-three rating across the past three games. The entire campaign has been a struggle for Petry, who's produced only one assist in nine games. The Red Wings will insert Justin Holl back into the lineup. Holl has recorded one assist in seven outings this season. He has failed to hit the 14-minute mark in three consecutive appearances but should play a bigger role on Friday as Ben Chiarot's partner on the second defensive pairing. With that said, Holl has zero fantasy value, and managers should look elsewhere for reinforcements at the back.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jeff Petry (upper body) is set to rejoin the lineup on Saturday versus Nashville. The veteran has missed three games after getting hurt in the team's season-opener against Pittsburgh on Oct. 10. Erik Gustafsson is expected to be scratched for the contest to accommodate Petry's return. Petry's productivity dropped off significantly in 2023-24 as he settled for 24 points (three goals, 21 assists) in 73 games with 134 blocks and 150 hits. He'll be 37 soon and doesn't appear to have much gas left.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
