Jean Segura Traded To Guardians And Released
1 year agoThe Cleveland Guardians acquired infielder Jean Segura and infield prospect Kahlil Watson from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for first baseman Josh Bell, according to sources. Segura's stay in Cleveland didn't last long, though, as The Athletic's Zack Meisel reported the Guardians are releasing Segura. He's owed the rest of his salary this year, $8.5 million for next year and a $2 million buyout for 2025. The 33-year-old has declined rapidly and was hitting just .219/.277/.279 with three homers, 21 RBI, six steals and 25 runs scored in 301 at-bats with the Fish this year. Watson, on the other hand, is a 20-year-old shortstop that was ranked by MLB Pipeline as Miami's No. 11 prospect. He has plenty of tools as a middle infielder, but he has plenty of developing still to do and is hitting just .210 (43-for-205) with nine homers, 24 RBI, 14 steals and 28 runs scored in 60 games for the Florida Complex League and High-A Beloit.
