Jason Vargas Has Fractured Hand
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas (hand) had a CT scan reveal a non-displaced fracture of the hamate bone in his right (glove) hand, and he will visit with a specialist before deciding on whether to have surgery. The good news is that the injury is to his non-throwing hand, but it's a bad break for the veteran lefty regardless. Vargas surprisingly went 12-3 with a 2.62 ERA in the first half last year before falling flat in the second half with a 6.38 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over his final 15 starts. Expect more of the second half numbers in 2018, and this injury isn't a promising start for him. Vargas is more of an NL-only pitcher to begin with.
